Don't people think when they meet a guy whose been a regular surfer for years (and I mean YEARS) and they've taken up SUP'ing, that they might think that you're doing it for enjoyment rather than some other more sinister reason Huh

No  Shocked Today a young Dude said to me when I was unloading my board, ''Ah, surfing for Oldies - guess I'll have to change to that one day''  I mean yep, the beard's there all right but I'm not ancient - are U  Huh

I am used to that stuff, I used to longboard on 10'+ boards and the moment i'd be catching the most waves and the longest rides, they'd start verbally abusing me.
I loved that kinda shit, since it was a confirmation that I was doing something right.

People say all sorts of weird stuff when they feel threatened.  I take it as a compliment when someone gives me a bit o' grief  Cheesy

Don't mean to disappoint, but the guy in the photo is not really me  Undecided I'm much uglier than that.

The guy that used to give me the most shite is now a paddle boarder himself; what does that say about it  Huh When he did used to give me abuse, my reply was always ''I got nothing but looooove for you Bro''   It used to wind him up so much; now he paddles close to me and we get along fine  Smiley

Not so much anti-sup shite but maybe an advertizer's wit  Huh  Undecided ......  The new Ryobi advert features a surfer having cut an SUP board up - picture courtesy of member Brucex on www.seabreeze.com/au

It's quite funny, but what's the big deal about the 'war'  Huh  Is it that we have an advantage with the paddle (they imagine) or that we can see the waves coming long before they do  Grin

I can't really understand that kind of crap.  Before I took up the SUP, I often surfed alongside a guy who was on one.  He'd let us all know when a set was coming, he'd even tell us which wave on the set looked worth the paddle.  Most of this is just bullshit and someone wanting to create a problem that doesn't exist in the first place.

Mind you, the video of Gareth charging through the line up in Noosa doesn't really help the cause  Undecided
